Summary (the short version)

We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email, or any other personally identifying information. We store an anonymous identifier in your browser so we can remember which stories you have already read. We do not sell or share your data.

1. Who We Are

The Reel Narratives is an educational publishing brand operating thereelnarratives.com (the "Service"). For the purposes of data protection law, the data controller is the operator of the Service, contactable at reelnarratives@unicomi.com.

2. What We Collect

We collect minimal data:

• Anonymous reader ID.When you first visit, we generate a random UUID and store it in your browser's localStorage. We use this to remember which stories you have read so we don't show them to you again. The UUID is not linked to your name, email, or any identifier you provide elsewhere.
• Reading history. Story IDs you have read, along with timestamps, are stored on our servers and associated with your anonymous UUID.
• Server logs. Standard web server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) are collected for security and abuse prevention. Logs are rotated and kept for no more than 30 days.

We do not collect:

• your name, email, phone number, address, or any contact details;
• payment or financial information (the Service is free);
• precise location data;
• data from third-party tracking pixels or social media trackers.

3. How We Use Data

The data we collect is used only to:

• show you stories you have not already read;
• operate, secure, and improve the Service;
• generate aggregate, non-identifying analytics about which stories are popular.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We do not use third-party cookies. The only client-side storage we use is the anonymous reader ID described above, stored in browser localStorage under the key omnicurious_user_id. You can delete this at any time using your browser's "Clear site data" tool.

5. Third-Party Services

The Service is hosted on infrastructure provided by DigitalOcean and uses Neon as its database provider. These providers process data on our behalf under their respective security and privacy commitments. We do not share your anonymous UUID or reading history with any other third party.

Some narrated story audio and video derived from the content is also published on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube under the handle @thereelnarratives. Those platforms have their own privacy policies that govern your interactions with them.

6. Data Retention

Your anonymous UUID and associated reading history persist as long as you keep the localStorage entry on your device. If you clear your browser data, the corresponding server-side reading history becomes orphaned (no longer linked to any active visitor) and is deleted on a periodic cleanup schedule.

7. Your Rights

Because we do not collect personally identifying information, we cannot identify a specific individual's data on request. However, you have full control:

• Reset your reading history: clear site data for thereelnarratives.com in your browser.
• Stop being tracked at all: use private/incognito browsing.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
